Sick Dogs Weight Gain and Satin Balls

Breeding dogs for over 25 years, kept me very busy,  as is with owning any pets or animals. I was constantly reading and seeking information, and read many information bulletins and updates on commercially prepared dog foods. Those days are over, and we rescue now, but stay with me as I share some of my stories and experiences from the past and what I found worked.

When I was breeding dogs, people always asked what I recommended, and to be honest there is no commercially prepared dog food that I really recommended, but if you ask me what foods dogs can tolerate, yes there are some that are better than others, and each breed is different however for the Chinese Shar-Pei they should be free of soy, soya, brewers yeast or by products of soy such as lecithin, as probably should many dogs with skin intolerances.

When ears, skin, bowels act up, many times food is the problem.

If you really knew, and I mean REALLY KNEW what was in/ and how your pets food was prepared, your WOULD TRULY THINK TWICE ABOUT what you are putting in your dogs dish, but everyone is in a rush and we all do what we can, as we feel is best for our pets. As always my belief is, 60 years ago there was no commercial dog food available,  and all our dogs ate what we prepared for ourselves, and lived long healthy lives free of dis-ease. They love rice, fish, meat, potatoes, and all my dogs ate what we ate and were in great coat and health. There was just no argument there. There are many that will argue this, and many preparing foods and selling now, and raw is now huge for many dogs, as they cannot tolerate commercial preparations.

Like people you will always get animals that are super sensitive to certain foods, plants and do have allergies, and issues with certain things they eat, but I always say start with the diet, and amazingly enough, you may see vast improvements in next to no time, with many health issues when diet is changed.chinese shar pei

Instead of getting into the lengthy description of what the rendering/slaughterhouse plants put into the pet food, you can search internet links and educate yourself with it, and then make your own decision what you want to feed your pet. The recipe listed below is the much requested and used Satin Balls RECIPE from my days that I used back in the 1980's and 90's, which is all natural, known for its nutrition and is great for just an easy all natural diet, or super for animals that require weight gain or have been sickly, or are sick. EASY TO MAKE!

Freeze it and you will always have the best! This is the original recipe from way back and the one I did recommend, there are many new and many variations. The biggest issue you will have to trying to find the amount, simply and easy.

Satin Balls Original RECIPE Ingredients

10 pounds hamburger meat/or chicken (the cheapest kind)
1 lg. box of Total cereal (or comparable natural brand)
1 lg. box oatmeal
1 jar of wheat germ
1 1/4 cup veg oil
1 1/4 cup of unsulfured molasses
10 raw eggs
10 envelopes of unflavored gelatin
pinch of salt

Mix all ingredients together and divide into 10 quart freezer bags and freeze. You can double the recipe if you want to make a bigger batch. Thaw as needed.

For small dogs try 1/8 pound (break one of the quart freezer pack 1 pound portions into 8) twice a day. Medium dogs 1/4 pound twice a day. Large dogs 1/2 pack twice a day. This is a large recipe and depending on your dogs weight and needs, this makes about 11 pounds of frozen dog food, so you can break it up accordingly, and monitor your dog based on these starting amounts and either add or cut back according to what you see.

Take frozen packs to dogs shows, kept on ice, you will never have any trouble with it spoiling, even in the heat of summer days. Feed a pack a day...half in the morning, half in the afternoon.

Dogs stop all the itching and chewing at their coats/skin, eyes get brighter, even ears clear up. There are alot of new recipes on the internet since these days and researching Satin Balls can help you  make up your own mind, and also determine amounts to feed your dog according to size and weight.

Lots of opinions out there, decide for yourself,  for sick animals, wonderful healer. I ran a large shar-pei health web site for many years, and have tried, tested and found truth to what I write about.  We were Shar-Pei Canadiana, and my dogs were healthy and many lived to be veteran pets.
